Field Service | Tecway Engineers Complete BDMS Maintenance and Software Upgrade

Field service tests more than technical knowledge. It tests an engineering team's response time, judgement and execution under real working conditions.

Tecway's engineering team recently attended a shipyard in Zhoushan to carry out on-site maintenance of a Bearing Wear Monitoring System (BDMS). The work was performed on a vessel undergoing related operations at the yard.

01 A full inspection to establish system condition

The BDMS bearing wear monitoring system is an important part of shipboard equipment condition monitoring. Whether the system is running reliably has a direct bearing on subsequent equipment monitoring, data interpretation and maintenance management.

On arrival, the Tecway team began with a systematic inspection of the BDMS system, wiring, cabling and sensors, working through each element that could affect operation. During the checks, the team identified and dealt with a start-up failure of the indication unit and poor PCB insulation, and confirmed the replacement of the affected components with the vessel's staff.

02 From power supply testing to alarm simulation

With the faults diagnosed and rectified, the engineers carried out power supply testing and alarm function simulation to confirm the system's response under different conditions. The team also backed up on-site data and upgraded the MDA software from version 2.06 to 2.10, supporting stable operation going forward.

03 Turning-gear retest passed and normal operation restored

To confirm the reliability of the work, the team also supported a turning-gear retest on site. The retest confirmed that all sensors were in normal condition and that the system was operating correctly. The BDMS maintenance work was completed successfully and in line with expectations.

From system inspection and fault diagnosis through to software upgrade, functional testing and turning-gear retesting, the Tecway engineering team worked through each step in accordance with field service requirements, resolving issues promptly to bring the job to a successful conclusion.

04 Recognition earned through professionalism on site

Within a limited operating window, the team efficiently completed fault diagnosis, confirmation of component replacement, software upgrade and system retesting. The owner gave the BDMS maintenance work a strong endorsement, singling out the professionalism, judgement and adaptability the engineers demonstrated on site.

The value of field service usually shows in the details: a thorough inspection, an accurate diagnosis, a timely repair, a reliable retest.

Tecway will continue to draw on its experienced engineering team and field service track record to provide clients with prompt, reliable and professional technical support. Tecway engineers — always on site.
